Google has discontinued Chromebook Pixel laptop but that doesn't mean that the company has backed away from it. And since Google has reportedly entrusts the first-party laptop-making to OEMs, netizens speculate that a new brand of laptop will be coming out soon under the Nexus lineup.

Pixel Laptop's Death Could Lead to Nexus-Branded Laptop

One major announcement was made by Google during the Mobile World Congress and that pertains to the discontinuation of their Chromebook Pixel laptop because of the difficulties of keeping up with the product's supply and demand. However, Google SVP Rick Osterloh clears out that the company won't be producing Google-branded laptops anymore but they are opening their doors to various OEMS, Ars Technica reported.

For this reason, rumors suggest that a Nexus-branded laptop has the possibility of turning into a reality and replaced the Chromebook Pixel 3 which is supposed to be the first host of Andromeda OS. However, the claim has not been verified by Google; instead, while Pixel laptops are not totally dead, Osterloh said that they are not ready to discuss if there are any follow-up to the product.

Meanwhile, netizens are advice to wait for the official announcement from Google. For the meantime, Google is planning to focus on smaller devices such as smartphones and tablets with Google Pixel 2 as the latest one in the pipeline.

Chromebook Pixel Laptop History

Aside from Samsung and Acer that manufacturers Chromebook laptop, Google has manufactured two versions of the Pixel laptop and worked around on the Chrome OS software. The recent one was released in 2015 which went out-of-stock from Google Store as Rick Osterloh revealed Google has no plans to sell another batch of it, according to CNET.

Despite the killing off of Chromebook Pixel laptop, netizens are still hoping to see another one in the future that will finally feature the hybrid Andromeda OS. If Google aims to unify its desktop and mobile software platform, coming up with another Google-branded laptop could be the best way to achieve it.
