Ohio State University College of Nursing partnered with a barbershop owner to provide health care to community residents. The program has been dubbed "Making A Difference". It has served community residents for more than 10 years already.

Al Edmondson has been the owner of a barbershop in The Columbus, Ohio. Ten years ago, he noticed that there was not enough health screening services in his area. He asked the College of Nursing of Ohio State University if they could provide health screening services. The university agreed with the ides Edmonson provided space in his barbershop for the nurses to conduct the screening. With the help of OSU, the project was granted some funding, according to Big Ten Network.

The funds received by "Making A Difference" made it possible for the program to extend other health services. It benefited the people of the community and the nursing students of the Ohio State University as well. The people get much needed health services while the nursing student got the necessary clinical experience for their course.

The project attracted young people who were service-oriented to enroll at the College of Nursing of Ohio State University. One of them was Morgan Ciehanski, who finished her nursing course with honors. To her, working for "Making a Difference" enhanced her awareness of the needs of the people in the community of The Columbus. She first heard about the program from Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at Ohio State University. She decided to volunteer for the program, which contributed to her development as a nurse, according to Outreach and Engagement.

Until today, the College of Nursing of Ohio State University is still a partner of Al Edmondson and his barber shop and beauty salon aptly named "A Cut above the Rest".The program has added mental health services to help people who cannot cope with stress.
