Sony unveils the insanely expensive Xperia Touch. The interactive projector turns any surface into a touchscreen Android device.

A little bigger than the Apple TV, Xperia Touch rolled out from the Sony R&B lab in time for this year's MWC. The good news is that it runs Android so customers all over the world would have no difficulties getting used to the new interface. However, it is offered for an eye-popping price that would probably prevent us from buying one.

How much is the Sony Xperia Touch projector?

According to Ars Technica, Sony has already introduced the Xperia Touch in various conferences as a concept. This year, though, the tech giant reveals the interactive projector as a real product. It will sell for a whopping $1,588 or €1,499.

The same source reported that the Sony Xperia Touch can either project on a table or on a far-away wall. It features auto-focus, auto-rotation, and auto-keystone. Simply put, users need to orient the device however they want and it will automatically configure itself.

A 23" display appears with 10-point multi-touch handled by the IR array. Users would definitely feel cool aiming at a particular app on a wall or a table with just their fingers. Sony says the automatic calibration in the Xperia Touch can cater up to 80" projection.

Sony Xperia Touch specs

According to BGR, the Sony Xperia Touch delivers an "ultrashort-throw" projection. An infrared light and a 13MP camera with real-time detection features were installed. It sports a decent 1366 x 768 resolution, 100 lumens, and 4000:1 ratio on horizontal ad vertical surfaces.

Other features include a built-in battery that makes the Sony Xperia Touch a portable gadget. It thrives with two-way stereo speakers, 32GB internal storage, 3GB of RAM, and microSD support. Moreover, the new tech toy sports a Bluetooth 4.2, Miracast, and Android Nougat.

Basically, the Sony Xperia Touch works like an Xbox Kinect or a PlayStation Eyetoy. The sensor works like a mouse, showing a circle cursor on screen when fingers are up. To click on specific apps, just do a pinch gesture.
