Mobile firms are now giving their handsets, like the BlackBerry KeyOne, a familiar design from the past. In fact, Kodak attempted to regain its glory days by installing retro vibes with its Super 8 Camera. On the other hand, Nintendo has resurrected its classic NES while Nokia 3310 probably is the biggest gadget reincarnation of the year.

One thing is for sure: These brands want to make themselves relevant again in 2017. Can these gadgets prove their worth in today's competitive market or are they only here for the hype and show-off? Read on to find out.

Blackberry KeyOne: Do we still love QWERTY?

Per Android Authority, nostalgia can be a powerful driving force. Apparently, the desire to be drawn to familiar things and positive memories is human nature. The Blackberry KeyOne, also known as BlackBerry Mercury, might have a decent audience after so many years.

Obviously, Blackberry treats us with an old-school keyboard handset with the latest Android technology. However, the company actually has bigger plans than just that. The Blackberry KeyOne represents the brand's intent to return to its grassroots. Maybe, going back to the basics would propel it back to the top.

The strategy might work eventually. For one thing, a keypad phone like Nokia is really handy when you want to text secretly in a corporate meeting. Do note that the Blackberry KeyOne has the ability to set over 50 keyboard shortcuts.

Nonetheless, it is too early to judge whether the iconic feature could really win the mobile market. Although, the QWERTY paired with a fingerprint scanner is undoubtedly interesting. All in all, to be able to introduce the brand is already a big stepping stone for Blackberry.

Specs & Price of the Blackberry KeyOne

According to GSM Arena, an Indian online retailer known as OnlyMobiles listed the BlackBerry KeyOne for Rs 39,999. That is equivalent to almost $599. For the record, the price includes a 12-month warranty for the black model.

The BlackBerry KeyOne sports the standard USB-C port and a 4.5" screen. Surprisingly, the device runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 complemented by a 3GB of RAM. In the imaging department, the rear camera is good at 12MP while the selfie shooter is at 8MP.

Moreover, the BlackBerry KeyOne thrives with Android 7.1 Nougat and 1080 x 1620p screen resolution. It is powered by a 3505mAh battery. The phone is expected to arrive sometime in April.
