"American Crime Story" season 2 cast has already been confirmed. Along with the announcement of the cast, the sequel is said to be taking the same theme as the first season.

'American Crime Story': Cast For Season 2 Confirmed

According to reports from Flickering Myth, Mathew Broderick ("Godzilla", "Cable Man") has been tapped to play the role of Michael D. Brown. The actor joins Annette Bening in the sequel. The latter will play as the Louisiana Governor named Kathleen Blanco.

For starters, Broderick's character is the former director of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The latter was appointed by the former president George W. Bush but resigned two years after following his involvement in a controversy. The said issue is about his handling of Hurricane Katrina that causes 1,245-1,836 deaths.

'American Crime Story': Sequel To Carry Same Theme As Season 1

As for the other details, Popsugar reports that the second season will carry the same theme as the first season.

Adding on, though the sequel will tackle the tragedy that happened two years ago, it with the casting of Broderick and Benning, it seems like it will take more on the political side. Meaning to say, the people behind the preparations and the controversies where they are involved will be the focus of "American Crime Story" season 2.

"Obviously that is our job on Katrina is to take an event that people think that they know and to give them fresh eyes to see it from the perspective of the character," says executive producer Nina Jacobson.

The same site also reports showrunner Brad Simpson's view for the sequel. When asked about the difference between season 1 case to season 2 story, showrunner Brad Simpson points out the outcome in "Katrina" "will be a bit harder to predict".

"Katrina will be very different in that you won't know the outcome," says Simpson "Who lives, who dies, it's all going to be true stories."

As for the release date, what is known so far is "American Crime Story" season 2 is slated for a 2018 premiere.
