The iPhone 7 Plus is literally the hottest phone of 2017. As we all know, it was Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 last year.

Currently, Apple is investigating a viral video of a burning iPhone 7 Plus. The Cupertino-based company acknowledged the tweet from Brianna Olivas showing the back of her scorched handset. What caused the fire?

iPhone 7 Plus: Battery issues

According to CNET, Apple is probing an isolated case of an iPhone 7 Plus that "blew up" due to battery defects. Brianna explained that she actually went to an Apple store the day before the incident. She complained that her phone would not turn on. Allegedly, the staff decided that nothing was wrong after they were able to make it work again.

Brianna, 18, lives in Tucson, Arizona. On Feb 23, her rose-gold iPhone 7 Plus started to smoke while it was charging. "So my iPhone 7 Plus blew up this morning. Was not even using it, literally no explanation for this," Brianna tweeted.

After the battery stopped smoking, she posted a photo of her iPhone 7 Plus with a split body already. The 21-second video has been furiously retweeted for over 23,000 times. It recorded a total of 1.2 million views so far.

According to The Guardian, this is not the first incident of a battery fire involving an iPhone 7. In fact, last October, an Australian male claimed that his device exploded and even destroyed his car. Reportedly, Apple said it is now 'in touch with the customer and looking into it."

While Brianna's case could be one in a million, it may also indicate a larger problem similar to Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. For the record, the iPhone 7 Plus has been in the marker for more than five months now.

Apparently, the high capacity lithium ion batteries were dropped by a lot of phone manufacturers after the Samsung incident. The Note 7 was pulled out from sale permanently after the company issued a massive recall. Will it happen to the iPhone 7 Plus?
