An Apple iPhone 7 Plus owner was surprised when her smartphone was on fire. The iPhone 7 Plus owner hit on her Twitter account to post the smoking device. The viral video of the iPhone 7 Plus prompts Apple to investigate.

On Wednesday, the 18-year-old college student in Tucson, Arizona, Brianna Olivas, posted a video on her Twitter account that shows her iPhone 7 Plus, which she bought from Sprint in January, in a melted plastic case and billowing smoke. The boyfriend of Olivas captured the incident with his phone, according to CNET.

Olivas stated that while she was sleeping with her iPhone 7 Plus charging next to her head, her boyfriend grabbed the handset and put it on the dresser. When Olivas' boyfriend went to the restroom, he saw Olivas' phone steaming and he heard a high pitch noise. By the time Olivas' boyfriend got over to the phone, it had already caught fire and he threw it in the restroom. As soon as the iPhone 7 Plus was thrown in the restroom, the handset blew up and more smoke started coming out.

Nonetheless, an Apple rep stated that the tech company had been in touch with the iPhone 7 Plus owner and they are investigating the incident. Although the cause of the fire is still unclear, it's very likely that the iPhone 7 Plus exploded because of its lithium-ion batteries. Wherein, due to the chemicals required to store a large amount of power, the batteries in the iPhone 7 Plus can catch fire and explode spontaneously, Independent reported.

In spite of that, Olivas also made it known that her iPhone 7 Plus recently had been acting up. The day before her iPhone 7 Plus exploded, the device wouldn't turn on. So, Olivas took the smartphone to the Apple Store where employees made a number of diagnostic tests. Nonetheless, the Apple Store diagnostic team couldn't seem to find an issue with Olivas' iPhone 7 Plus. This could indicate that other iDevices might have some issues.
