Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson named new president for the team's basketball operations. The team has been through hard times lately, and it would be nice to see the Hall of Famer leading the team like how he used to. His first move is building around young stars trading away Lou Williams and possibly finding a trade partner for Nick Young.

It couldn't be denied that Magic Johnson lead the Los Angeles Lakers to glory during his time. This could prove to be a good strategic move for the struggling team. Besides appointing Johnson as the new president, the team fired general manager Mitch Kupchack and Jim Buss, the executive vice president of basketball operations, Rolling Stone reported.

Looking for Nick Young Trade Partner

Johnson's strategy is to play the waiting game, scooping up a 2017 first-round pick trading away Lou Williams, BleacherReport reported. With this pace, considering the 3 p.m. deadline on Thirsday, there could a big possibility that the team would find the right trade partner for Nick Young, whose trade market has bee neutral for a long time. His contract will expire after 2017 to 2018, which brings him $5 million a year.

How Johnson will improve LA Lakers

Johnson will build on the younger players and the future of the team with Young and Williams as examples. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that the team won't be looking at what's out there. The team even thought of getting DeMarcus Cousins before they were shipped from Sacramento Kings to New Orleans Pelicans.

Johnson said, working for the team again is a dream come true. He is particularly excited about working with the Buss family, especially Jeanie Buss. He said that he has been part of the Lakers since 1979 and that he is passionate about it. He said he will do everything he can to bring a winning culture to the team.
