While rumors and speculations of Apple's upcoming iPhone 8 are rife on the internet, leaks on the upcoming Apple Watch 3 are still scarce. Nevertheless, a new report sheds light on the display panel of the Apple Watch Series 3, which indicates that Apple's upcoming smartwatch will use a different display technology.

The Cupertino based tech giant is set to release the Apple Watch 3 later this year, and the device will reportedly come along with a glass film touch screen display. The new display of the Apple Watch 3 comes after TPK Holding (the supplier of touch panels with two glass pieces for the Apple Watch) considered to halt its production of the devices after it was unable to raise the yield rates for touch on lens to a reasonable level, according to DigiTimes.

Apparently, due to Apple Watch screens curved surface, the problem lies in leveling up the yield rates for touch-on-lens (TOL) panels. The curvature of the Apple Watch makes it difficult to manufacture touch sensors, wherein the TPK Holding even made losses last year due to the low yield. In spite of that, as the TPK Holding is giving up production of Apple Watch touch panels, the touch screen manufacturer is said to focus on smartphone OLED touch panels, Trusted Reviews reported.

That being the case, the Apple Watch 3 is speculated to roll out alongside the iPhone 8 in September. The upcoming Apple smartwatch is said to come along with a better battery life. Nonetheless, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last year that the Apple Watch 3 could come with an LTE chip for cellular connectivity. In addition, the Apple Watch 3 will also feature a sleep tracking, an always-on display and the device will arrive with the new watchOS 4 operating system running out of the box.
