The current generation of Samsung's Gear VR headset is still one of the most used VR headsets up to this day. Nonetheless, new reports have mounted up on the internet that Samsung plans to revamp the entire system by means of a new version of the Gear VR headset. One of the biggest differences is that the new Samsung Gear VR 2017 will now have its own controller.

The South Korean tech giant is reportedly prepping to roll out a new version of its Samsung Gear VR headset. The next iteration of Gear VR, with one key difference, will come with a dedicated handheld controller, according to Sam Mobile. The single-handed controller of the new Samsung Gear VR headset will no longer let users reach for a touchpad on the virtual reality headset itself. As games and any other apps involve more than rudimentary controls, the next iteration of the Samsung Gear VR is a big deal.

The controller of the new Samsung Gear VR headset will likely connect to the headset through Bluetooth. This will ditch the need for any wires, and it will improve the virtual reality headset's overall experience. The touchpad on the Samsung Gear VR headset will also likely be removed, which will allow more streamlined, as well as a cleaner design profile. The overall design of the new virtual reality headset will also likely be changed to be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones, according to Galaxy Club.

In spite of that, Samsung did not confirm if the upcoming controller will support the previous Gear VR headsets. As of now, Samsung Gear VR users will need to purchase the Bluetooth controller separately. Nevertheless, the new Samsung Gear VR 2017 will reportedly be launched alongside Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 during Samsung's previously announced March 29 event.
