Walden Online University topped all US universities in terms of number of degrees awarded to blacks. It had conferred 682 degrees from 2011 through 2015 to blacks, beating any other brick-and-mortar universities.

Walden Online University is an online educational institution with headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It had granted advanced degree to a big number of blacks. Yet, this might not create a balance between black and white teaching staff for as long as traditional universities still exhibited preference for white teachers over blacks, according to Science.

This did not discourage the blacks to pursue their dream of getting a doctorate degree. They might not be able to get teaching posts but their degrees would help them get better jobs in other fields.

Walden University Online is a profit-oriented educational institution. Its tuition fees are higher than those of other online colleges and universities. Despite the expensive school fees, it was able to attract a big number of students from all over the world.

As of 2015, it had an enrollment of more than 40,000 in all its graduate programs. Most of these students are black, with jobs and with families. The flexibility of the programs allowed them the opportunity to study despite their hectic schedule. Financial aid is also extended to qualified students, according to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.

Currently, Walden University offers 140 degree program with more than 300 specializations. Students may specialize in science, management, human services, counseling, nursing, public administration and information technology, to name a few.

Adult learners can choose from any specialized fields that have practical application in real life. This makes it easy for its graduates to find jobs in their special fields. Technology is widely used to enhance learning and faculty and staff is trained on how to engage students from all parts of the world, according to US News.

Most importantly, Walden University Online has provided blacks and other minorities to realize their dream of getting doctorate degree.
