The new Samsung Galaxy Book may be Samsung's entry into the 2-in-1 hybrid laptops. The South Koreans are taking the Galaxy brand into a fully-fledged laptop that runs Windows 10. Announcements may follow soon possibly at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) this Sunday.

Samsung has long been in the laptop business and it just announced two Samsung Chromebooks at CES 2017. The South Koreans are set to continue their commitment to Google's proprietary OS. However, the Galaxy brand has been solely exclusive to smartphones and tablets since it was launched in 2009. This may no longer be the case for Samsung may soon announce the Samsung Galaxy Book.

Over the weekend, a Windows Store app that was named Book Settings appeared. The app listing indicates that the software is intended for use in the Samsung Galaxy Book and may not work on any other device. MS Power user picked up the story where the lone screenshot reveals the use of the AMOLED display and a pen input support. The device also has the ability to make unlock patterns seen in many Android devices and an extender for battery life.

The features in the unannounced Samsung Galaxy Book suggest a new rival for the Microsoft Surface Book and the Apple MacBook. The South Koreans may be leveraging the popularity of hybrid devices amidst the declining sales of tablets. Since the Galaxy brand is used, many expect the new 2-in-1 device of Samsung will have marked differences from its laptops.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Book may be the first device specially designed to use the Windows 10 Cloud. This is the new variant of the Microsoft OS and its existence was asserted by a leaked build earlier this month. The new device may be the successor to the same Windows-powered Galaxy TabPro, but it is more than just a tablet and more of a revamped convertible TabPro according to The Verge.

More details may be unveiled when Microsoft goes public with its new Cloud OS. Hardware manufacturers will most likely take advantage of the created hype and Samsung may capitalize on the publicity. The South Koreans are also expected to reveal more of their Galaxy line roadmap in MWC.
