If you have graduated with a degree in journalism or communications, chances are you are looking at becoming a journalist. But there is this big world of opportunities you can explore. According to The Buttry Diary, you have to treat your job hunt as if it is a big story where you have to do a thorough research, looking for connections, similar to how you look with a prospective employer or company. And if you are ready for a head-start on your job search, a seminar will be held on Saturday which is called "Landing your First Gig", Borderzine reported.

In the seminar, the student will get to meet area leaders and it will feature editors and news directors from El Paso and Las Cruces media. The keynote speaker is going to be El Paso Times Editor Bob Moore, and it will start at 9am and end at 3pm in the Tomas Rivera Center in the Union East.

Aside from the panel discussion, the editors will also take time to have a one on one meeting with the students who are into careers in print, web and broadcast. The daylong event will be co-sponsored by the student chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Sam Donaldson Center.

UTEP Professor Dino Chiecchi, adviser to the NAHJ student chapter and interim director of the Sam Donaldson Center said that the purpose of the event is to help the students connect and network with those who they refer as the media titans of El Paso, coming from the different publications in town. It will be an excellent venue for students to establish relationships with them and be able to bank on those networking opportunities to help them in the future. The seminar is going to be a great start and a step in the right direction for the students, Chiecchi added.
