When it comes to celebrities, nothing screams intimacy and connection between the idol and fan than celebrity underwear. Why are people fond of collecting these intimate clothing? Any clothing or piece of object once owned by an actor or a big personality can attract a huge following and money trail. Items once worn, like the celebrity underwear of some personalities such as Ed Sheeran or Dame Helen Mirren for example, can attract huge charities and auctions.

But what is the science behind these celebrity underwear? A City University of London professor, named Chris Rojek, looks into the sociology of celebrities. He is an expert in the study of celebrities, as reported by BBC. Rojek says, when it comes to people and their idols, it boils down to getting a way to get close to them.

Since majority of fans and people may never meet their favorite actors or artists, the closest thing they can get is a pair of celebrity underwear. Rojek explains that people want a relationship of perceived intimacy.

Celebrities are not shy about donating their garments for charities. Rojek attributes this to an open and ready market. This also factors in a part of glamour for the celebrity. Ultimately, collectors just want a relic of the celebrity. Which is why a pair of celebrity underwear can become a highly priced item. The relic history behind it can increase the value of the item as much compared to its owner's name.

For example, Madonna's gold underpants worn during a concert and paired with her famous conical top can gain more attention and more dollars.

It would not be a strange thing to see if Twenty One Pilot's items will be all the rage in the next few years because they accepted their first Grammy award in their celebrity underwear, as reported by AOL. The only question is, how much is it worth for those with willing pockets. Check out the video below:
