Shailene Woodley has signed up to star in the survival story "Adrift." "Everest" helmer Baltasar Kormakur is directing the movie with a script written by Aaron and Jordan Kandell.

"Adrift" is based on the true story of Tami Oldham and her fiancé Richard Sharp who, while sailing together, find themselves facing the biggest hurricane in the history of the Pacific Ocean. After getting knocked unconscious, Oldham awakens to find Sharp badly injured and their boat heavily damaged. With no means of communicating for help and navigating the vast seas, Oldham races against time to save herself and the love of her life.

"This project was highly sought after and the entire team at STX Films is thrilled to be able to work with Balt on this harrowing, extraordinary and inspiring story of love and survival against all odds," STX Entertainnment chief Adam Fogelson said in a statement, as quoted by Variety.

Meanwhile, Woodley has said no to starring in the fourth installment of the "Divergent" franchise after it was announced that it would be made into a TV movie. "Divergent: Ascendant" would've been the actress' final outing as Tris Prior, the movie's lead hero.

"No, I'm not going to be on the television show," Woodley tells Vanity Fair. Woodley, and the rest of the cast of "Divergent" was initially onboard "Ascendant." However, due to the disappointing box-office receipts of "Allegiant," Lionsgate pulled the plug from the theatrical release of "Ascendant" and opted to have it developed into a TV movie. The said "Ascendant" TV movie is said to be a precursor to a spin-off series based on Veronica Roth's dystopian novels.

At this point, Woodley's co-stars also have not confirmed their participation in the "Ascendant" TV movie. Much like Woodley, Miles Teller also expressed his disappointment at Lionsgate's decision to forgo the theatrical release of "Ascendant."

The 25-year-old actress is starring alongside heavy hitters Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern in HBO's limited series "Big Little Lies" in which Woodley plays an empowered single mom. The series premieres Feb. 19 on HBO.
