Brenton Thwaites is set to star in a leading role in Eric Bess' new supernatural psychological thriller "Ghosts of War."

"Ghosts of War" follows the story of five battle-hardened American soldiers who are assigned to protect a French Chateau by the end of World War II. Their mission in the area, which was formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, takes a dark turn when the soldiers encounter a supernatural entity more terrifying than anything they've seen on the battlefield.

As per Deadline, Thwaites will star as the leader and strategist of the troop who is suffering from battle fatigue.

"Ghosts of War" will be directed and written by Eric Bess. He previously worked on thrillers "The Butterfly Effect" and "The Final Destination." Miscellaneous Entertainment's D. Todd Shepherd, Joe Simpson and Shelley Madison are producing the film. Adrian Jayasinha is attached to executive produce.

Meanwhile, Thwaites will star in the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" as Henry Turner, son of Orlando Bloom's character Will Turner.

"I play a guy called Henry who is a soldier in the Royal Navy. At the beginning of the film, he is locked up by his own men for trying to warn them of an evil coming their way," Thwaites tells Da Man (via Just Jared) magazine about his role in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5."

Thwaites adds that no one believes his character except for Carina Smyth, portrayed by "Maze Runner" actress Kaya Scodelario. Carina helps him escape, and together they realize that they are after the same treasure and help one another to retrieve it.

It is believed that "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is Johnny Depp's last outing as Captain Jack Sparrow. With the introduction of Thwaites' and Scodelario's characters, the franchise is presumed to take on a new direction and focus on a younger generation and a new set of characters.

Aside from "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," Thwaites is also set to star in "Interview with God" and "Office Uprising." "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" hits theaters on May 26.
