A first look at Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft is here as photos from the set of the "Tomb Raider" reboot show the Oscar-winning actress in action as the female heroine.

The "Tomb Raider" reboot has officially began filming and Vikander jumped into action and did some action scenes in full gear as Lara Croft. Vikander's look reflects Lara Croft's signature style from the computer games. In the photos, she's seen doing her own stunts and jumping from hanging beams.

In an interview with IGN, Vikander teased that she's going to give a fresh take on the character previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie. "I think what we're now going to do is we're aiming to do something very fresh and something new that can stand on its own two legs," the actress said.

Vikander beat out other young actresses for the coveted role, including "Star Wars" star Daisy Ridley, "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke and model Cara Delevingne. Although Vikander is more known for playing dramatic roles, she stretched out her muscles in the action movie "Jason Bourne" in which she starred alongside Matt Damon.

She further revealed that unlike Jolie's "Tomb Raider," the upcoming reboot is more of an origin story and will show the character's journey to becoming the Lara Croft that viewers and fans know her as. It was also said that the "Tomb Raider" reboot will be based on the 2013 game of the same title.

"This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and i think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it," producer Graham King told Hey U Guys.

"Tomb Raider" reboot has cast Dominic West to play Lara Croft's dad, Lord Richard Croft. The character is described as an aristocrat and an archeologist. He plays a key role in the film. Lord Richard Croft was previously portrayed by Jon Voight.

"The Hateful Eight" star Walton Goggins is also on board the "Tomb Raider" reboot as the still-unnamed villain. In an interview, Goggins described his character as "very complicated, and his motivations are pure."

The "Tomb Raider" reboot is expected to premiere in theaters on March 16, 2018.
