Intel will be releasing the eight-generation Core i7-8000 or better known as the Coffee Lake series with 15 percent performance boost over Skylake. The processors are using an updated version of the 14nm fabrication process producing more power-efficient processors than its predecessors.

During an investors meeting, Intel has disclosed that its eight-generation processors have regained a marked improvement from its predecessor. The CPUs are using an updated version of the 14nm node using a process that Intel calls "Advancing Moore's Law on 14nm."

This could mean that Intel may be using various existing products that it has upgraded and re-branded as new. These processors are obviously not part of the 10nm Cannon Lake series, which is intended for mobile platforms this year.

Intel has not specifically given more details about the processors, which led experts to speculate. This could not be the Kaby Lake-X, which actually falls under the lower Core i7-7000 series brand. It could not also be the Skylake-X since the HEDT platforms feature the older sixth-generation Skylake chips.

It is more likely that Intel may be releasing the Coffee Lake processors, which is expected to be launched by the first half of 2018. Intel may have sped up its launching in response to AMD's Ryzen though CEO Brian Krzanich has revealed that the company is confident of its roadmap for 2017.

At CES 2017, Intel has showcased its first working 10nm Cannon Lake product, which will be launched in full by 2018. To date, the eigh-generation processors are still using the 14nm process node and yet managed to be 15 percent faster than Skylake according to WCCFTech. In sum, the Core i7-8000 series got a total of 20 to 30 percent increase in overall performance, though these have not been benchmarked yet.

The same has been said about Skylake but some benchmark results have shown an improvement by only 5 or 6 percent. Nonetheless, Intel promises the much more improved processors that are also more power-efficient.

The Intel eight-generation Core i7-8000 processors will be launched by the second half of this year and will come in four variants. These are the Coffee Lake-U, Coffee Lake-X, Coffee Lake-S and the Coffee lake-H with a range that could include both dual-core 8 4+2 and 6+2 core chips. It will also feature the GT2 integrated graphics solution, MSPoweruser reported.
