The players may not see any of the profits, to protect their amateur status, but major college football programs are quite valuable.

While not even the Texas Longhorns, number one on the list, can even breathe on any of Forbes' 50 most valuable pro sports franchises, $129 million is a lot of value for a university sports team.

The Longhorns are also one of three historic programs worth at least $100, along with Notre Dame and Penn State.

The SEC is widely believed to be the most competitive conference in the nation, but they also appear to be the most valuable. Five SEC teams occupy the top 10 versus two each form the Big Ten and Big 12.

Here are Forbes' 10 most valuable programs in college football.
