Intel is set to introduce two new CPUs that have higher clock speeds and TDP figures although still based on the same Kaby Lake architecture. Intel intends to maintain its superiority over AMD by tackling head-on the mainstream Zen-based processors with slightly better specs and possibly lowered prices.

Amidst the imminent launching of AMD's Ryzen CPUs, Intel is poised to tackle the rival head-on. According to Canard PC, a French publication, Intel is planning to launch two new CPUs with higher clock speeds and higher TDP figures, still based on the micro-architecture of Kaby Lake albeit with slightly better specs.

Intel Core i7-7740K

The new Core i7-7740K will replace the Core i7-7700K to be the fastest Core i7 chip. It has a quad-core design with hyper-threading feature and it is based on the latest 14+ nm fabrication process. The new process node is a big performance and efficiency boost from current 14nm FinFet technology.

Its clock speed is rated at 4.3GHz with a boost up to 4.5GHz. Its processor has an 8MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 112W. As to pricing, there is no official word yet, but it could be lower to compete with Ryzen.

Intel Core i5-7640K

The new Core i5-7640K is the very first time that a Core i5 chip is built on the HEDT platform. It also has a quad-core design with 4 threads and it is based on the latest 14nm+ fabrication process.

It has a rated clock speed of 4.0GHz with a boost to 4GHz while its processor has 6MB of L3 cache. Its TDP figure is at 112W similar to the Core i7 chips found in the Kaby Lake X-family, wccftech reported.

Intel Vs. AMD

It is the first time that Intel has been threatened by a rival particularly the long-time '"underdog" AMD. Intel is intent on keeping its superiority over AMD, a post it has been holding for the longest time.

The competition is good for consumers as more likely prices will go down and chips will have better specs and features. Moreover, Intel is already working on its eight-generation Cannonlake architecture that will be based on the 10nm process according to Digital Trends. The CPU giant continues to provide faster and more efficient products to seal its dominance in the CPU market.
