Richard Kelly's sci-fri horror film "Donnie Darko" was first seen in 2001. Now, let's hear what Kelly has to say when asked about the possibility of "Donnie Darko 2".

"Donnie Darko 2": What did Kelly say about possible sequel?

Kelly expressed his interest. He told HMV that there's something much bigger and more ambitious to do in that universe. Although one major concern he hinted at is the budget. Kelly also said that it's big and expensive and he thinks there's time to get to that (via CinemaBlend).

Looking into what Kelly said, it seems like "Donnie Darko 2" could not work - as of now, at least. Well, he did not say no. When Kelly said that he wanted to do more stories within this particular universe, that could give hope to "Donnie Darko" fans that a sequel might stil happen.

Per Consequence of Sound Gyllenhaal's first starring role was in the movie "October Sky". Although many would say he revealed his talents more when he did his second one, "Donnie Darko". Here, he played a teenage insomniac plagued by visions of a 6-foot tall rabbit. Although the Richard Kelly-directed flick was not too appreciated in its initial release, it has definitely become a cult classic.

One notable question to ask is if Gyllenhaal's character will be back? With all these talks of "Donnie Darko 2", would Gyllenhaal reprise his role or maybe consider a cameo? The source said it could be possible if the actor has free time to sign on for the project. After all, his movies like "Demolition" and "Nightcrawler" still show that Gyllenhaal still has the knack to play weird protagonists.
