Facebook fake news still thrives despite giant tech company's efforts to curb it to zero. Now that the company is frustrated about the matter, it revamped a feature to totally eradicate fake news on people's feeds. Starting today, only topics covered by numerous credible news websites will surface in the popular social media.

Facebook Fake News Continues To Trend: Here's Why

Facebook fake and hoax stories remained trending on Facebook much to the company's disdain. That's because this is not the first time that Facebook aimed to solve the problem that became a huge issue fuelled by the political situation in the US. The company already tweaked their 'trending' button, but to no avail.

For some reason, Facebook fake news persisted. Despite Facebook's early efforts to rid users of it, hoax stories still pass the trending filter. The reason for that is people still easily falls prey to sensationalized stories and this is not exactly a new problem as fake stories date back to 1475.

Since then, fake news found its power in the general public. The more sensationalized the story is narrated the more powerful it is because people will buy it. What's more is no one can really bury fake news. Back to the present age, Facebook fake news stories have become staples by the people who frequent the social media site and it threatens significant events out of the trending spot.

Facebook Fights It Off With Trending Topics Algorithm Shake-up

Now Facebook delivers the final blow. By once again shaking-up the algorithm of its "trending topics" button, Facebook seeks to discriminate Facebook fake news from ever hitting the news feed again, NPR reported. To better reflect real news, Facebook removes personal preferences from the equation.

Facebook announced that the same regions will see the same topics. To define "trending" topics should be backed by numerous credible publishers. People sharing, liking, and commenting the same article or topic will also count.

Moreover, the trending news' single headline will now be backed by the news link or the new source. Factored with the number of audience engagement in a given time, this new method will give more prominence to the actual stories being read by people in a country, Wired reported.

Will this new method finally be effective in killing the proliferation of fake news? Moreover, will Facebook be able to go out of the shadow that they are the ultimate venue for misinformation? Only time will tell.
