The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 launch may be imminent as the Surface Pro 4 gets a major price cut in the U.K., U.S. and Australia. Moreover, the cause of its delayed release are now resolved with Intel already mass producing the seventh generation Kaby Lake chipsets and the Windows 10 Creators Update poised for an April release.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been under the radar for the last few months, but recent Microsoft marketing promotions suggest an imminent release. The last few weeks, the Surface Pro 4 underwent major price cuts, which could be the beginning of a stock liquidation.

Companies often liquidate old stocks in preparation for new products as last seen in the Surface Pro 3 before the Pro 4 debuted in 2015. Over the past few weeks, the Microsoft Store in U.K. gave away the Surface Pro 4's low and mid-tier configurations at 15 percent less. Consumers need only to enter a special coupon code to avail of the promo.

In the last 48 hours, the price cut mania also reached U.S. stores at only $799 with a $100 price cut for low tier m3 model with Surface Pen Stylus. In Australia, the no-pen device dramatically dropped with AU $450 less from its original price, iDigital Times reported.

Previous reports pointed to Intel as causing the delay of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 unveiling. Intel delayed the release of its seventh-generation Kaby Lake chipsets, which will power the new iteration tablet.

Now that Intel has commenced mass production of the Kaby Lake processing chips, the unveiling of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may be near. It is a known fact that the two-year old Surface Pro 4 is in need of a new iteration that will showcase the best of the Windows 10 Creators Update.

The update is set for an April release, which could push the unveiling of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in March. To compete with premium tablets like the iPad Pro, Microsoft needs to address important performance issues in its newest iteration starting with an improved battery life.

The Surface Pro 4 failed to deliver its nine-hours stretch, which needs to be improved on with the new iteration. With Kaby Lake under the hood, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 can give better performance and efficiency particularly on its battery usage according to the Express.
