What once was the biggest and widely used custom Android ROM has died and in its place is the Lineage OS, a successor which carries the legacy that CyanogenMod left behind. What's more is the builds are here, available for several devices including Nexus 6P. Can Lineage OS continue what CyanogenMod has started?

How the Spirit of CyanogenMod Lives On

When CyanogenMod was discontinued because of internal conflicts, an announcement of its replacement quickly hit the news. Lineage OS has taken the mantle and promises to keep most of what users have grown to love with its predecessor. The team behind it however promised then that it will not be a pet project of another company, but rather it will return to its community-driven roots.

This means the successor does not have corporate financing like its predecessor. A few weeks later the Lineage OS team is already giving thanks to those who helped the project kick off proving that it is really returning to its grassroots community efforts like it promised.

Since CyanogenMod's deactivation last 31'st of December, users have been looking for a way out from the trap that the company has left them on. With the coming of Lineage OS, users have found and will find that it bears the same features that CyanogenMod has. Now, the developers have released the new ROM's first few builds and it includes the phones that use custom ROM, Life Hacker reported.

List of Devices with the Nightly and Experimental Builds

Among the first devices to sport the new builds are Nexus 6P and 5X, Moto G4 and G4 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi 1, and Nextbit Robin. The faster and better version of CyanogenMod will add more than 80 devices on the list for the next few days and weeks, Android Authority reported.

If you're upgrading from a CM setting, you may try the data migration builds because it has less resistance.

But before you jump the gun, make sure you've backed everything up. Moreover, if your device is not on the list, just keep an eye because the company plans to target more. Looks like there's no sopping Lineage OS continue what CyanogenMod has started.
