"How I Met Your Mother" spin-off is still in the works and not shelved as its earlier version, 2014's "How I Met Your Dad." The new title penned by "This Is Us" writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger will be called "How I Met Your Father." However, a Barney spin-off may not be plausible with Neil Patrick Harris already tied to "A Series of Unfortunate Events" in Netlfix.

"How I Met Your Mother" spin-off was already in development in 2014 just before the series finished its final episode. The spin-off was then called "How I Met Your Dad" also penned by the same creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas with the inclusion of Emily Spivey.

However, the pilot episodes for the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off were ordered by then CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler for a reshoot. Tassler cited some elements especially the awkward dialogue in the "How I Met Your Dad" was not working for TV as effectively as its mothership series

Showrunners Bays and Thomas refused to reshoot without a series commitment from the network. Thus, the fate of the "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off was ultimately sealed with the "How I Met Your Dad" officially canned.

Earlier this month, a report from Deadline revealed that a new "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off is currently in development and on the negotiating table with the creators and potential networks. Bays and Thomas will still produce the new show "How I Met Your Father" under the 20th Century Fox, but with new writers onboard, Aptaker and Berger from the hit series "This Is Us."

CBS Tassler's successor, Glenn Geller, has revealed interest on the new "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off and awaiting pitches from its creator. However, the "How I Met Your Father" will not be pitched exclusively to CBS for its creators are reportedly pitching it to all interested networks.

Meanwhile, fans on twitter voiced out their comments on the latest "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off. Some lament the exclusion of the original cast of the signature comedy series of CBS while some were interested to see a spin-off based on Barney played by Harris.

Harris in speaking to Just Jared may no longer be interested to do any kind of "How I Met Your Mother" spin-off with even a reunion a long shot from happening. Harris said that most of them have moved on to other roles and projects with the actor currently busy with "A Series of Unfortunate Events" showing on Netflix.
