A recent patent document suggests how 2^nd gen Chromecast could have looked.

The second generation of Google Chromecast has been out for awhile now but a recently-revealed patent suggests that it wasn't the original design that the company meant for its device.

There isn't any word that confirms the patent is for Chromecast but tech geeks have assumed that way due to the fact that it mentions a device for media streaming with a Chrome logo that sits nicely at the front side.  

The patent was dated before the second generation came out, according to 9to5 Google, and there are a few noticeable differences between the current product and what's described in the document. For instance, the patent shows a slimmer Chromecast design with a different length.

Regardless of the design, many consumers are not keen to find out if there are differences in the outward appearance since Chromecast mostly hangs out of sight. However, a slimmer look of the device would be considered a better version.

According to Phandroid, the patent will expire after 15 years and there's a possibility that Google will launch a device similar to the drawings in the patented design in the future. Whether or not the patented design will make it to final, everything remains to be seen.

Google launched the first generation of Chromecast back in 2013 and the second one was introduced in 2015. In 2016, Chromecast Ultra made its first appearance and it is now the Chromecast current model with 4K capability.
