"Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King" is finally available in the US and in Europe in the Nintendo 3DS version, which according to a review is the definitive home for the game. Now, fans of the franchise get to relive their childhood fantasies again. The bonus is it's in a portable platform with new gameplay and storyline updates and tweaks to make this the ultimate experience and Journey of the Cursed King.

Dragon Quest 8 invites players to embark on a quest to save king and country by lifting the evil spell that swept all. Play the role of a castle guard who escaped the curse cast by the evil jester Dhoulmagus. The role of saving the kingdom and restore its former glory is now in that castle guard's hands, Gematsu reported.

The 11-year old game has notable changes with two new party members, Morrie Mozzarella and Red. These characters were sidelined in the original version, but they're going to play bigger roles now. Their inclusion makes the playable players count to six, which is a needed variety in a 70-or-so-hours game.

Although these new characters do not have the unique skills that the old members have, they carry new weapon types, which is where players will be spending their skill points on. Moreover, the tweaks include levelling up and monster battles. Also, the previous issue that plagued the game's open world version where players were bombarded by an onslaught of mobs with up to seven enemies per encounter was finally fixed, CGMag Online reported.

Now players can see the monsters live in the open world, which allows the players to choose which monster they want to engage. When a player chooses to level up, players can bank skill points and not be limited with having to invest on whatever tech tress are available. Like mentioned earlier, skill points can be used to purchase equipment for battle but they're quite expensive; hence the bank.
