Last year, Richard Anthony "Dick" Wolf hinted at The Law And Order: SVU spinoff. Although it seems to be put on hold as of late. The Law And Order: SVU creator and executive producer have not given any recent statements, but NBC has spoken about the issue and here's what the network had to say.

The Law And Order: SVU spinoff on pause

According to Cinemablend, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said that matters are a little too heated around the real-life source material. She expounded that things are evolving inside the FBI, that's why the spinoff has taken a back seat. She added that the case of the Menendez Brothers has been accelerated, so more focus will be placed on that.

The Law And Order: SVU spinoff: what do we know so far?

Not many details have been divulged about the spinoff, apart from its FBI ties and the possible setting being in New York City. Maybe this could work for NBC's advantage? As the spinoff being put on hold will not disappoint a lot of fans since they know less about it. The source says that beyond the delay, it could be said that The Law And Order: SVU spinoff will not be shelved forever.

Wolf and his team may have worked on it enough and not consider scrapping the project altogether. Salke said that production will return to the concept in about five months or so and discuss picking it back up.

New love interest for Olivia Benson?

Meanwhile, could there be some impending action waiting to happen for Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and her love life? The issue comes as the show's 400th episode directed by Hargitay is coming up. Per Deadline, Wolf said that the series might get a new FBI character who is going to be a love interest for Benson. Salke mentioned that the said character may be or may be included in the spinoff as well.

As of now, fans can look forward to more Law & Order: SVU and patiently wait for mode details on the spinoff. Law & Order: SVU airs every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
