Fans will see a different Anne Hathaway in the new film "Colossal," which she will be starring together with actor Jason Sudeikis. The movie is slated to land in US theaters on April 7 and has already gathered praises from movie writers branding it as the weirdest but oddly touching film.

It will be directed by "Time Crimes" and "Open Windows" director Nacho Vigalondo, Collider reported. "Colossal" exposed Vigalondo's unique twist on the genre with a much more personal and humorous spins.

The film is about a woman named Gloria, played by Hathaway whose life is falling to pieces because of a series of poor life choices and too much boozing. When Gloria loses her job and gets kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, she relocates to her hometown.

Gloria meets her childhood friend, played by Sudeikis and immediately finds herself slipping back into her destructive patterns. Sources added that the film centers on Gloria having a psychic connection with the giant monster called Kaiju, which starts popping up in Seoul, South Korea.

She realized that her reckless behavior threatens to destroy more than just her relationships. Hathaway has earned positive feedbacks of her remarkable playing of a messy and troubled soul, while Sudeikis adds new layers to his usual charming jerk role, Slash Film reported.

Reviews about the movie point to it being like an indie drama-comedy that twists through several different genres and tones. According to critics, "Colossal" is surprisingly low-key for a monster movie and it's got a smattering of sharp feminist commentary.

The story does not also have quite much emotional impact as it should have. Nonetheless, the monster movie feels unique and personal. Sources added that Vigalondo's strong vision, along with sensitive work by Hathaway and Sudeikis, ensure that "Colossal" never feels like anything other than completely itself.
