The "Super Mario Odyssey" is the latest major 3D Mario adventure that features new abilities including a weaponized hat and diverse game locations traversed using Mario's own airship. Creator Shigeru Myamoto revealed that it is still a family-friendly game, but admits a higher degree of difficulty as compared to other titles.

The "Super Mario Odyssey" is a heavily-anticipated title, a long overdue 3D Mario adventure that brings the iconic Mario into a modern open-world setting. Nintendo announced the game during the Switch event in Tokyo and promised to deliver a new playground for Mario without fences.

"Super Mario Odyssey" New Environments

The "Super Mario Odyssey" trailer reveals interesting information as to what gamers can expect in the new release. Mario will be in real-life places like the New Donk City, a fictional version of New York City, where Mario will be able to interact with some people and even talk to them.

Another new feature in "Super Mario Odyssey" is that the game's protagonist finally has his own airship as evidenced by the "M" flag. This will help Mario traversed the many and diverse game locations included in the open-world setting.

Locations like a desert town, a woodland environment, colorful beach, and a creepy-looking area with a decaying green platform most likely an entry way to Bowser's lair. There is also a concrete fortress as revealed in the first Nintendo Switch teaser reel.

"Super Mario Odyssey" New Gameplay Features

Mario's iconic red hat is part and parcel of the character for more than 30 years, but Nintendo finally gave it some interesting tweaks. "Super Mario Odyssey" retains the same sandbox-style gameplay, but a new feature is Mario's weaponised hat.

The "Super Mario Odyssey" trailer reveals that Mario's hat can now be thrown like a boomerang and can even be used as a trampoline to clear wide gaps. Mario's new skills and abilities may be tied to his hats and it looks like he will be wearing different kinds as he is seen entering the Crazy Caps store according to Trusted Reviews.

Other new gameplay features in the "Super Mario Odyssey" include using hoods of cars as springboards and light posts for swinging and jumping. Mario's wall jumping may even take him to the tallest skyscrapers with the hero seen hanging on ledges by his hands and shimmying across narrow gaps, Digital Trends reported.

To recap, Myamoto revealed that "Super Mario Odyssey" remains a family-friendly game, but this time there will be a higher degree of difficulty to keep players engaged. There is no confirmed date for its release with Nintendo saying it will be during the holidays, which could be on December 2017.
