Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe's (Lauren German) newly established romance is not without its hurdles. The Prince of Darkness will doubt Chloe's intentions in next week's "Lucifer" episode titled "Love Handles."

The sneak peek for "Love Handles" opened with Chloe waking up from a nightmare. Later in the clip, she was seen making out heatedly -- and on the verge of sex -- with Lucifer. He's asking her if she's sure about what they are doing, with Chloe replying, "Shut up."

Despite these, the promo for episode 12 showed Lucifer telling Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) that he has doubts over how genuine Chloe's infatuation for him is. Chloe kissed him in last week's episode titled "Stewardess Interruptus" and though it's clear that she has feelings for him, Lucifer is right to wonder where this sudden intense infatuation is coming from.

There are speculations that Charlotte has a huge role in Chloe's sudden advances on Lucifer. In the previous episode, Charlotte visited Chloe at the police station and told her that she and Lucifer should start dating.

Charlotte may have compelled Chloe to do her bidding. And Chloe taking the first step towards a romance with Lucifer may be part of Charlotte's plans to convince her son to go back to Hell.

In an interview with TVLine in December, "Lucifer" showrunner Ildy Modrovich said that Charlotte will "use Lucifer's feelings against him" now that she knows that Chloe is a miracle baby. Mom will "weaponize those feelings" and put Lucifer and Chloe's relationship in "major jeopardy."

"Love Handles" will showcase Lucifer and Chloe investigating "a mysterious masked killer who is poisoning college students" as they "try to make sense of their new relationship," SpoilerTV reported. Charlotte, meanwhile, books an appointment with Linda (Rachael Harris) to ask her for an advice over a sensitive matter.

The promo for the upcoming "Lucifer" episode also featured Charlotte telling Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) that Chloe and Lucifer crossing paths wasn't a coincidence. It's possible that Maze would side with Charlotte's plans.

In a separate interview with TVLine, Modrovich revealed that Maze will pick the side opposite Lucifer and possibly hurt him. Maze wants her "full independence" and she's willing to hurt Lucifer for it.

"Love Handles" airs on Monday, Jan. 23 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Do you believe that Charlotte forced Chloe to hook up with Lucifer? Sound off in the comments section below!
