Nvidia announced at CES 2017 that a new, upgraded version of its Shield TV streaming box will come out soon. Now, a little more than a week later, the new Nvidia Shield TV is available with a price tag of $200. The higher priced Shield Pro ($300) is slated to start shipping at the end of January 2017.

The upgraded version of its Shield TV brings the 2015 Shield TV up to Android 7.0 Nougat, Twitter, NFL, Comedy Central and adds apps to Amazon Video. The new Nvidia Shield TV offers a new Nvidia Games hub as a centralized spot to access games. The GeForce Now cloud streaming has been upgraded to provide up to GeForce GTX 1080 graphics, while the local GameStream feature can now stream games from a person's gaming PC at up to 4K HDR, The Verge reported.

Nevertheless, for consumers who want to upgrade to the new 2017 Shield TV, the new 2017 Nvidia Shield TV offers an improved performance, Google Assistant smart home control, along with the other aforementioned features.

In spite of that, Nvidia plans to launch a software update to the original Nvidia Shield TV that will bring many of the same features the new 2017 Nvidia Shield TV has. Despite what a person may have read online, this update has not yet rolled out. Nonetheless, Nvidia's Manuel Guzman hit on his Twitter account and claimed that tech fans can expect the 2015 Nvidia Shield TV update to arrive next week or so.

That being said, while the internals of the new 2017 Nvidia Shield TV and its predecessor are reportedly the same, the tech company was able to reduce the box size of the second-generation by 40 percent. The controller of the new Nvidia Shield TV also got an overhaul with a significant reduction in size and weight. Nvidia's media remote now come stock with the new Shield TV rather than being a $50 add-on, according to PC World.
