Atari teases an announcement that could be about a wearable gaming device for the "Game Band." But how is it used and where is it used? Moreover, the official launch of the device is expected to be very soon.

Atari "Game Band" Wearable

An Atari teaser image shows the logo of the company imprinted on a person's wrist, which clearly indicates a wearable gaming device, Ubergizmo reported. There are no official reports yet on what this product is, as well as how and where to use it. However reports have indicated that it will be released 1 February 2017.

Just last year, Atari already hinted that they have plans to go back to the hardware market by developing smart home gadgets. This upcoming wearable gaming device could be the manifestation of Atari's promise.

Besides Atari, Razer is another company that launched a wrist-based wearable device, which is called the "Nabu." However, that gadget is more of a fitness device than a gaming device.

What to Expect from Atari's Wearable Gaming Device

In a newsletter, Atari said that it will release a new device that will let fans play their favorite classic Atari games in a brand new way, NDTV reported. There are no exact details revealed by Atari in that announcement, but since it involves Gameband, it could have the same feel as the Gameband for Minecraft.

Gameband was first launched in 2015 as a portable Minecraft for hardcore fans. Players can create their own copy of the worlds and weapons they built onto the internal storage of the wearable and then they can carry it with them.

Gamers can simply plug it into a computer and open the Gameband app. The Gameband for Minecraft can also let users present customized animation and messages seen on the device's LED ticker display. Atari Gameband, however, didn't have the license for Minecraft, which means fans have to shell out some $80 to play the game. However, Atari is yet to announce any details on how much the new wearable gaming device will cost.
