The American Institute for Economic Research (AEIR) has ranked various cities across the United States and picked the best college towns based on noteworthy metrics, such as earnings, cost of living, and entertainment factors. Here are the top seven college town in the U.S.

Boulder. Colorado

Boulder ranks first among the best college towns across America with a college population of 31,958 in the total population of 199,129. Boulder tops the list for many reasons including, economy, the quality of life, and the weather. It also has great open space - thanks to its policy of being the first state to tax itself to preserve open space.

Champaign-Urbana, Illinois

Champaign is the most accessible college town in the AEIR rankings because of its variety of transportation. It is even very favorable for those who prefer to walk or use their bikes to navigate the city. Champaign is also high in terms of diversity and economy.

Flagstaff, Arizona

Flagstaff, the home to the Northern Arizona University, is a town rich in history and diverse architecture. Whether you are a student or not, the diverse forms of activities and entertainment along with its laid-back charm will win you. Music is plenty in Flagstaff and its entertainment score ranks high among college towns.

Ithaca, New York

Home to Cornell University, Ithaca has a slew of pubs, eateries, and art-house cinemas. Almost half of Ithaca's population has a BA degree; however, the labor force participation is low so it might not be a good choice after graduation.

Iowa City, Iowa

Just like Ithaca, half of Iowa City's population has a BA degree which is not surprising since it is home to the University of Iowa. It has a youthful ambiance with its thriving art and entertainment scene. Students will not find nightlife lacking in Iowa city with its number of restaurants, bars, and pubs.

Bloomington, Indiana

Bloomington is none other than the home of the University of Indiana Hoosiers. It is a vibrant city with a large array of ethnic restaurants, art shops, bookshops, and bars. Bloomington also has a love affair with bicycles as 10 percent of the population use this mode of transport around the city.

College Station, Texas
