Ryan Seacrest isn't investing in keyboard technology designed to make texting easier so more people will vote for contestants on American Idol. That process requires only a series of numbers. He's investing in the technology because he believes in the market -- or the lack of market.

"After ordering every smartphone keyboard available, they realized that there was no solution that worked well," read a news release from Typo, the company in which Seacrest and his partner have already invested more than $1 million. "That's when ... the Typo Keyboard was born."

Depending on its success, Seacrest and Show Media CEO Laurence Hallier could put up to $5 million into a company dedicated to serving a class of Hollywood consumers who currently carry one phone for easy typing and an iPhone for everything else, according to PC Mag. Typo combines the best of both phones.

The Typo Keyboard Case, as it is official called, is an accessory exclusive to iPhones, PC Mag reported. Two appendages, one from the top and one from the bottom, click together almost like a cover, but with a press-able QWERTY keyboard on the bottom you might find on an old slide phone.

Not only does the add-on make texting and browsing the internet easier, it gives users a larger screen by opening up space previously used as a touch-tone keyboard.

"When they set out to design the Typo Keyboard, their goal was simple: create a keyboard and case that would add the absolute minimum additional length and thickness to the iPhone, while still providing protection to the phone and a butter-smooth, tactile typing experience," the press release said.

Typo Keyboards double texting time and minimize typos, according to the company. The backlit keyboard requires a chargeable battery, according to PC Mag. Pre-order yours today for $99, but it won't ship until after Christmas on Jan. 13.
