Google has released its latest update for the music app, but one key new feature will be inaccessible for two of the company's latest devices.

With the latest Google Music update, Droid Life reported, users can download their music from the cloud to either their device or to an external micro-SD card. Google Music has always allowed users to store song files in their cloud, but this is the first time a user has been able to download a song to an external memory card.

However, because two of Google's latest devices do not have an SD card slot, this feature is not accessible for users of the Nexus 7 tablet and Nexus 5 smartphone. As Forbes pointed out, this design choice was made due to space constraints on the newer devices, but is still disappointing nonetheless.

Forbes' Dave Altavilla wrote the omission of an SD card slot for the devices is "a shame" because they are among the best products on the market. He said the absence of an SD card slot is not a deal breaker, but the "class-leading devices," as he called them, are certainly lacking in one key aspect.

The Google Music app update also includes changes to the UI, an improved slide-out menu and a sharing feature spanning several forms of social media and other websites.

Google Music has always been unique from other music apps. With Pandora and iTunes Radio, users can create radio stations for specific kinds of music based on an artist, song or album. Spotify offers a Netflix-like subscription to listen to its library of songs. Both Amazon and iTunes digitally sell songs and albums in their library, but Google's service is somewhat of a hodgepodge of all the above.

Now on Android smartphones and iPhones, Google Music users can store their own music libraries in a cloud (like Google Docs) and buy songs from the online store.

The expanse of the app to iOS users will certainly help it compete on the market, but it is unclear as of yet if the new SD card feature will influence future Google devices.
