Since "The Banner Saga" universe is rife with narrative opportunities, Stoic's game developer and founder John Watson confirmed that they are in the process of preparing the story for the third game in the current Banner Saga trilogy, "The Banner Saga 3." As of press time, they could not yet provide details on the story itself or release date, however, they tipped that the final trilogy story will be stranger and stranger, diving into the weirdness of North mythology.

The reception of the game way back in 2012 has overwhelmed the game developer and his team, thus made them launched TBS2 four years later. When it was added to Xbox Games with Gold program last summer, Games Industry.biz pronounced it as one of the most downloaded games, iDigital Times reported. Watson confirmed that the game has been currently downloaded by more than 1.6 million Xbox One owners.

Watson revealed that financing remains one of the biggest obstacles of Stoic, which only has six full-time employees in creating the final entry in the Banner Saga trilogy. It can be recalled that Stoic has put its first game in a Kickstarter campaign but could not of course pocket as much of the profit.

With the success of the previous Banner Saga titles, Watson is positive that outside investors are already in the loom willing to work with the studio but he also wants to be sure that whatever deal Stoic agrees to will ultimately put the studio on the path to more financial stability. Sources added that Watson and co-founder Arnie Jorgensen are currently seeking for more options when it comes to financing the game, as it is projected to cost about $2 million to make.

Watson and Jorgensen admitted that they are seriously discussing about seeking private investment and even shopped around for other options like returning to crowdfunding again, Games Industry reported. Fans in the Steam community expressed their optimism that Stoic will eventually get some money for the third and final game and hope that it will be soon so it could immediately start with the game's development.
