Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts Space Industries have been crowdfunding "Star Citizen" for several years now. It is now safe to say the game can be developed because they have raised a whopping $141 million for it.

According to Cinema Blend, "Star Citizen" continues to garner financial support from gamers who are not satisfied with today's games. Several games are not what the gamers expected them to be in terms of quality because they are made for the lowest common hardware denominator. It means the scope and technical ceilings are lowered as they are based on the budget given to the game.

It is never easy in the world of game development especially something as big as "Star Citizen" as there are ups and downs that take place including technical setbacks. There are times when even the smallest of problems can cause months of delays.

According to Forbes, "Star Citizen" creator Chris Roberts announced 2017 will become a good year in the development of the game with Squadron 42 and Alpha 3.0. This is good news for fans of the game who have eagerly awaited its release. It has so far missed all the release dates it set for itself. Roberts did not announce a release date for the game but the fact that it got an insane amount of money thru crowdfunding means it will be released soon.

The latest story coming out of the "Star Citizen" camp is the game has decided to change its engine from CryEngline to Amazon's Lumberyard which is surprising considering how far they have come in the game. It is what happens to games that take so long in terms of development that they have to update and it creates even more work which takes even more time for it to be finish.
