Nokia is reportedly working on its own artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, which will be called as Viki. Recently, the Finnish multinational tech company filed a request for trademark protection in the European Union.

Nokia has submitted for a new trademark in the European Union for the moniker Viki. This move of the tech giant of naming something as Viki might be the brand of Nokia's new voice-activated virtual personal assistant that the company is working on, according to Phone Arena.

In the description of the product section of the filed application, Viki is described as a software for the creation and monitoring of mobile and web assistants, collaborating with digital knowledge and combines all data sources into a single chat as well as a voice-based interface.

The development was first spotted by the mobile phone information website GSMInfo, which has also shared a screenshot for the tech company's Viki trademark, claiming that Nokia is working on a digital assistant and a voice-based interface.

Nonetheless, the new Viki voice-activated assistant for Nokia will be entering a market that includes other AI's such as Google Assistant, Siri, Cortana, Bixby and Amazon's Alexa. Meanwhile, Huawei has already made it known that the company will include Alexa artificial intelligence (AI) assistant on its next U.S. bound flagship handset.

In spite of that, the Viki AI assistant could help Nokia's upcoming Android smartphones stand alone in the smartphone world. Wherein, the HMD Global Oy (HMD), the licensee of the Nokia brand for smartphones and tablets, recently rolled out the first Android Nougat powered Nokia smartphone. The Nokia 6 is a China-bound device and would be up for grabs in early 2017 exclusively via JD.com with a price tag 1699 CNY or $245.

As of now, tech fans still have to wait for the announcement of Nokia regarding the Viki voice-activated assistant.
