Questions about the long awaited update of the Apple's iMac line have been rounding up online for the past year, as iMac users were expecting for a 2016 update. The year has passed by and the now the new year has come where speculations about the iMac update are even growing stronger. Rumors circulating points to the next iMac launch which seems to be finally happening early this year.

Reports claimed that the company may gear towards upgrading its desktops as Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that it has great desktops in the its roadmap, Mac World reported. Cook emphasized that desktop is very strategic for Apple because it is unique compared to the notebook and packs a lot more performance.

He added that desktop could have the largest screens, the most memory and storage, a greater variety of I/O, and delivers fastest performance. He boasted the current generation iMac, which is the best desktop the company has ever made with its unrivaled Retina 5K display.

The source added that Apple is strongly committed to desktops despite folks in the media being very skeptical about it. Reports added that while Apple is imagining a future where desktops are still being produced, they might not feature the iconic Mac branding.

Reports divulged that Apple has reorganized its software engineering department and that there is no longer a team dedicated to macOS, instead engineers now work on both iOS and macOS. Though the Mac ecosystem appears to be crumbling, it still remains a $22B business for Apple, 9TO5 Mac has learned.

It is believed that Apple's next generation of iMacs will feature graphics chips from AMD's Polaris set, which were announced at the start of 2016.These processors are said to appear in the new desktops and notebooks from Apple, which the company plans to bring to market this year.

The Polaris chips offer improved graphics performance compared with previous generations and potential reductions in both power consumption, and waste head. PC users will now have something to look forward to as these chips will also bring virtual reality within their reach.
