Twitter recently launched its 360 degree live video update and tries to keep it edgy as the place for live events and breaking news. In a move that is widely believed as a takedown against Facebook, Twitter is keeping the competition on its toes. The bad news is, it's not for everybody.

Twitter's 360 Degree Live Video for "Select Partners" Only

The new feature is not initially available to all Twitter users, Business Insider reported. This is according to the company's AR and VR director, Alessandro Sabatelli. Twitter is trying to turn the tables of fortunes around by putting focus on news and live events, which are the areas where it beats its rival Facebook.

Mark Zuckerberg made statements this year that video is the future of social media. He said the world is entering the golden age of video where most of the content seen by people and shared on daily basis is in the form of video.

Twitter apparently takes on the challenge by introducing this new feature to its streaming app Periscope. Sabatelli said starting now, when a user sees the LIVE 360 badge, they can interact with it by changing what's being shown. The user can do so by swiping the screen 360 degrees, live.

While anyone who's on Twitter can interact with the live videos, only the select partners can share live, Forbes reported. As to the identities of these select partners, none were divulged by the reports.

Other Competitions

It would seem like Twitter and Facebook are not the only giants taking on the live video streaming feature. Authentic news agencies such as Forbes and Huffington Post are reportedly in talks to put the live video streaming in their markets. More media landscapes are looking into the visual side of storytelling as well.

Zuckerberg could be right. The world is truly entering a golden age of videos. Five years from now, video-minded people will take on their social media to post live videos and the other not so video-minded will be interacting more often than before.
