Osterhout Design Group (ODG) breaks through the Augmented Reality (AR) technology with its ODG R9 4K headgear that seems to be high-fashion glasses. The prototype shows how great advancement the company has achieved to meet hologram possibility.

ODG R9 Augmented Reality Glasses has already closed a $58 million Series A funding just this month. This is probably the largest initial funding round for any company in the wearables, AR and virtual reality (VR) industries. ODG venture in developing in wearable AR began in 1999, Nanalyze reported.

ODG's R-7 AR headset has been available on the market since the end of 2015 and has earned positive reviews from early adopters. But the company is bringing AR technology to the next level. ODG R9 Augmented Reality Glasses now has a prototype and it did not fail to impress and top expectations.

According to MS Power User, ODG R9 Augmented Reality Glasses features dual 1080P light field transparent glasses and a 50-degree vision of the field angle. This is because of the glasses design that appears to cover a large part of the user's field of view. VR is also possible with the use of the same glasses due to the large field of view rendered and the opacity of light field glasses.

The ODG R9 Augmented Reality Glasses are self-contained that runs Android and a custom layer placed on top of its ARM processor. It also features many sensors.

These environment-scanning sensors are different form the ones being used with the HoloLens. It still works quite better in tracking the surrounding for mixed reality experiences. However, it has no ability to read hand gestures that are integrated into  HoloLens. But ODG R9 Augmented Reality Glasses support a number of modular accessories for trendy and techy users.
