"The Lost City of Z" trailer is finally out, giving a glimpse of stars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson as explorers who journey to the great Amazon.

The official trailer shows Hunnam's and Pattinson's characters traveling to the Amazon. It also shows clips of the indigenous community that thrive deep in the Amazon forests. The journey becomes dangerous as the characters face an unknown threat and fight for their lives.

"The Lost City of Z" is based on the eponymous best-selling book by David Grann. It is based on the true story of British explorer Percy Fawcett who travels to the Amazon in the early 20th century where he discovers a previously unknown yet advanced civilization that may have previously inhabited the region, /FILM reported. Although receiving opposition from the scientific community who regard indigenous peoples are savages, Fawcett returns several times to the Amazon to collect evidences that might prove his case.

The movie stars Hunnam as Percy Fawcett and Pattinson as his aide de camp. Sienna Miller also appears Percy's supportive wife Nina Fawcett and Tom Holland as their son Jack Fawcett.

The movie has been in the works for many years and other actors were attached to play the lead role prior to Hunnam. Brad Pitt was initially tapped for the role. Instead, he is billed as one of the producers for "The Lost City of Z." Benedict Cumberbatch was also approached, but he declined to make room for Marvel's "Doctor Strange."

The rights to the movie was being negotiated by several film distributors worldwide before the North American rights to the film landed in Amazon Studios' hands. Amazon reportedly sealed the deal at a mid-eight figure sum.

When it screened at the New York Film Festival 2016, "The Lost City of Z" earned some solid reviews. For one, The Hollywood Reporter described the movie as a "rare piece of contemporary classic cinema" and an "immaculate production" that posses "methodical storytelling, traditional style and obsessive theme."

"The Lost City of Z" opens theaters in New York and Los Angeles on April 14, 2017. It will be screen in other territories the following week.
