Nintendo made it known that their first mobile game, "Super Mario Run," was downloaded more than 40 million times across the world in its first four days of release. The game hasn't even launched on Android yet.

"Super Mario Run" rolled out in Dec. 15, and the side-scrolling auto-running game quickly shot to the top of the App Store charts around the world. The game developer claimed that "Super Mario Run" game is currently at the peak in the Free Apps rankings in 140 countries and regions, and the game sit in the top 10 highest-grossing apps in 100 markets.

In Nintendo's press release, the video game company claims that in addition to its top ranking in the free chart of the App Store, "Super Mario Run" is also in the top 10 ranking in 100 different markets for best grossing games.

Apple SVP of Marketing Phil Schiller, confirmed that "Super Mario Run" broke a record for App Store downloads following its initial days of availability. The video game company closes the record announcement with a note that they are achieving their goal of growing the group of consumers who are familiar with its IP even further, according to Tech Crunch.

Nevertheless, while the side-scrolling auto-running game is free to download, game enthusiasts can only play the first three levels. "Super Mario Run" gamers must pay $10 to unlock the rest of the game. It is estimated that 4 percent of individuals who downloaded the video game within its first days of release went on to pay for the full version, Polygon reported.

Sensor Tower analyst Spencer Gabriel stated that he doesn't think this is a statement on the quality of "Super Mario Run, but rather the perceived value when compared to free-to-play video games that provide much more content with optional microtransactions, according to Reuters.
