Jerome Valeska is probably one of the most sinister villains in "Gotham." He's a complete psycho and downright scary. Despite having been killed in the previous season, the character is rumored to return in "Gotham" Season 3 as the popular villain he was purported to be: The Joker.

Actor Cameron Monaghan has been filming for his "Gotham" Season 3 return and his character might have gone through drastic changes when viewers see him again. According to Cinema Blend, Monaghan shared a photo of him wearing face prosthetics that made it appear as though the skin isn't attached to his face. Given this, fans have been speculating that "Gotham" Season 3 will bring out Joker's story from "New 52."

"New 52" of the DC Comics tells of The Joker's admission to the Arkham Asylum where his face was ripped off by The Dollmaker. Although many thought him to be dead, The Joker returns and continues his killing spree. This time, his face is attached to his skull using staples and a belt.

This presentation of The Joker on "New 52" may be too much for fans to handle while watching "Gotham" Season 3. Perhaps the show could get some inspiration from Tim Burton's 1989 "Batman," in which Jack Nicholson played the role of The Joker. That character appeared with a permanent smile-a result of reconstructive surgery after his face was burned by a chemical.

Monaghan's latest Instagram post also hints that his character would be introduced as The Joker on "Gotham" Season 3. According to Screen Rant, his post just shows a plain white screen, but the audio is features Monaghan saying, "Hell, Gotham" before letting out a chilling laugh. If anything, the laugh alone is similar to The Joker's laugh in many of his onscreen portrayals.

This isn't the first time viewers have heard Jerome's laugh on "Gotham." It was previously heard in the season 2 finale when his laughed echoed when the monsters were freed.

Monaghan has received praises from viewers and "Gotham" fans for his incredible portrayal as the young madman Jerome.

"Gotham" Season 3 airs every Monday on Fox.
