On December 19, Samsung will start to roll out a software update that will stop Galaxy Note 7 phones from charging. This is a strategy that will hopefully force the 10 percent remaining owners who haven't returned their devices to give them back for the recall.

 Samsung Limits Galaxy Note 7 Battery to 30% Charge

 The new update will limit the phone to a charging capacity of only 30 percent, BBC reported. Last September, Samsung released an update that renders the Galaxy Note 7 useless beyond 60 percent charging. This has helped increase the rate of return in-line with the mass recall due to reports of exploding batteries.

In the United States, 93 percent of the recalled phones were already returned, CNET reported. Meanwhile, in Europe, some 10 percent of Galaxy Note 7 users still haven't returned their devices. The new 30 percent charging cap is a strategy that Samsung will push to force the rest of the owners to give their Galaxy Note 7 back.

The last owners of the Note 7 should return their devices to Samsung an have them replaced. There are local replacement programs where customers can have their Note7 replaced.

Samsung New Update will Render Note 7 Useless

The phones will be prevented from charging as well as rendering it useless as it removes its capacity to work as a mobile phone. Besides limited charging, Samsung is also using other strategies in different places in the country. In Canada, the update will directly cut out radio communications on the Note 7. This includes the wi-fi and Bluetooth.

The company released a statement saying it will notify all consumers and encourage the rest of the Galaxy Note 7 users to return the devices and avail the financial incentives.

The major reason for the recall is the report earlier this September where phones caught on fire after overheating. The latest update will finally wipe off Note 7 from the place of the planet.
