It was way back in 1990 when the last installment of the "Back to the Future" film franchise was released on the big screen. Now that 16-years have passed, rumors are circulating about the possible reboot of the box office trilogy.

It was several years ago when fans of the franchise started speculating about the reboot of "Back to the Future," However, according to Cinema Blend, the executive producer of the film trilogy, Frank Marshall, does not want a fourth installment or a reboot of the movie series. Marshall said that like the "E.T." movie, "Back to the Future" does not need to have a reboot and that the film should stay as it is.

The publication also noted that the idea of a reboot was also rejected by the films' director, Robert Zemeckis. According to sources, Zemeckis is not intending to have a remake of the film. It was also noted that he and the co-creator of the franchise Bob Gale are on the same road of respecting the originality of the trilogy and are not open for any remake.

The same publication cited Gale's comment in relation to rumored "Back to the Future 4." Gale said that the sequels he saw were not as good as the original ones, and that he does not think that a new "Back to the Future" film can recapture the excellence of the trilogy.

On the other note, a publication on Back to the Future website noted an auction that will happen this fall on ScreenUsed. The auction will be about the memorabilia of the film series, specifically production materials. The materials are said to be hand drawn storyboards by Andrew Probert who was the production artist of the "Back to the Future" films.

To wrap this up, it is still quite unsure whether a fourth installment or a reboot of the 1985 "Back to the Future" film is going to happen, given that big names close to the film were reported to be against it.
