"The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine" won the Best Role-Playing Game of the Year award and ultimately, the Game Awards 2016. However, some fans believe the expansion game shouldn't have been nominated for the former during the recent Game Awards 2016 in Los Angeles.

"The Witcher 3" beat other popular games which include the following: "Dark Souls 3" and "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided." It also defeated the games "Xenoblade Chronicles X" and even "World of Warcraft: Legion," Inverse reported.

Why fans believe it shouldn't have won

Some fans, however, argue that expansion packs shouldn't be nominated for this category. There should be a Best DLC or Best Expansion category so that other new games could have a shot at the award, Forbes reported. Without the inclusion of the games mentioned above as nominees for best RPG, other newer stand-alone games could have had a chance.

Why it deserves the Best RPG award

Though some fans believe it doesn't deserve the recognition, most welcomed it with open arms and praises. "The Witcher 3" still follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, the famed monster hunter. The expansion brings back everything fans love about the franchise, but at the same time it brings a lot of new features.

It has a whole new map to explore and discover. Plus, it has a lot of new equipment and items to explore. Hunting and killing monsters are a staple for the franchise, but the expansion brings more new enemies to face. It also brings new quests for players to enjoy.

Other awards

Two weeks ago, the Golden Joysticks Awards was given to "The Witcher 3" including Best Visual Design and Best Storytelling. Meanwhile, the game's developer, CD Red Projekt won Studio of the Year Award. Meanwhile, the actor who played Geralt won the Best Gaming Performance award.

It is also notable that "The Witcher 3" won the highest award during last year's Game Awards.
