Ecommerce enabler Shopify is beefing up its mobile portfolio with the acquisition of the Toronto-based product studio Tiny Hearts, a developer of popular mobile applications Pocket Zoo, WakeAlarm, Next Keyboard and Quick Fit. The deal is the second acquisition for Shopify for this year.

According to TechCrunch, the Toronto-based Tiny Hearts has been in operation for seven years, and during this time has managed to release amazing apps and services, which claims to hit the top 10 charts quite a few times. Tiny Hearts has even won numerous awards and got featured in some of the major tech publications out there including the New York Times, WIRED Magazine, and The Verge.

The two companies are no longer strangers to each other's, Shopify and Tiny Hearts have previously worked together in the past. These include works on a pop-up shop called Popify, Shopify apps Frenzy, and the keyboard app for the iPhone, Skopkey.

In addition to those business apps, the product studio has also released a number of mobile apps and games in the market, including popular consumer-facing apps like Quick Fit, Next Keyboard, InstaMatch, and Wake Alarm.

Prior to the deal, Tiny Hearts has also worked with some big clients, which include the likes of Plantronics, Philips, Meridian Credit Union and the City of Toronto. As stated in Tiny Hearts' blog post, the studio's six-person team, including founder and CEO Robleh Jama, will join Shopify and work from the ecommerce company's Toronto office. This won't be a difficult integration for Shopify, Tiny Hearts is located just a few block away from the Shopify's office.

Based in Ottawa, Canada, Shopify is a cloud-based, multichannel commerce platform designed for small and medium-sized businesses. Shopify also provides businesses with a powerful back-office and a single view of their business.

Shopify reports that it has around 300,000 businesses in approximately 150 countries and is trusted by brands such as Budweiser, Tesla, LA Lakers, Red Bull, and the New York Stock Exchange.

Some Tiny Hearts apps will be kept live on the App Store following the Shopify's deal, but Tiny Hearts didn't make any comment on which ones or when the others would be pulled out of the App Store. The company has not disclosed the financial details of the deal.
