If you have always dreamed of being part of the royal family, or even just simply desired to spend time in Buckingham Palace with Queen Elizabeth of England, then there is the possibility of reaching your dream through the Royal Household Hospitality Scholarship.

Prince Harry announced nine scholarships while he was in Grenada last Monday during an official visit to the Caribbean. The grantees of these scholarships will spend six weeks with the royal family. Itinerary of travel includes going to Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace as well as attending Royal Ascot week which is a yearly elite human hobnobbing and horse racing event in June.

There are a few significant essentials, as reported by The New York Times.

Residents of British Commonwealth

Scholarships are only for residents of the nine British Commonwealth states in the Caribbean where the queen of England is head of state. These include Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent, Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Jamaica, Belize, Grenada, Barbados, Bahamas, and Antigua and Barbuda.

This implies that Canadians, Americans, and other nationalities that do not belong to the aforementioned states are not eligible for the scholarship. It might be a good thing since this royal scholarship does not really mean as a fairy-tale opportunity.

Hospitality Industry Professionals

The scholarship program announced by Prince Harry is exclusive for individuals in the hospitality industry. The Caribbean economy is built on the hospitality industry. Thus, this program is designed for recipients to learn new skills under the management of the Master of the Household's department that is in charge of planning royal parties and events.

Duties of a Royal Scholar

The official website of the royal family reports that the duties of a royal scholar will include housekeeping, cooking in the royal kitchen, caring for artwork and furnishings and front-of-house duties such as greeting guests and serving food and drinks."

These scholars will undergo six weeks of training to advance their skills in their respective field of expertise. This involves learning complex chocolate and sugar craft and performing tasks for the Queen's guests at Windsor Castle during Royal Ascot week or shadowing the service team at official and private functions.

The website has not provided detailed information regarding the compensation of the scholarship. However, local media reports that the grantees of the Royal Scholarship will be provided with staff accommodations and meals and travel as well.
